Burlington is located on the east shore of Lake Champlain. It lies between the Adirondack and Green Mountains and is the biggest city in Vermont. Its population is approximately 45,000, and it is a bustling city that fairly bursts with color during fall.

Regarding politics, the former “socialist” mayor of Burlington, Bernard Saunders, was elected, in 1990, to the House of Representatives from Vermont, becoming the first political independent to go to Congress in forty years.
A university town that is youthful, vibrant, and outward looking, Burlington is one of the rare cities in America to offer something that is very much like a café culture. You can stroll around on foot downtown, and walking spaces and parks are favored over mass housing developments.
